    24. February 2016: What GMs and Line Managers must know about Layoffs - Seminars in Taicang & Suzhou

Many GMs and Line Managers wrongly believe that they can fire any employee easily if they want. They think that even if the fired employees should win the labor arbitration and court case, the cost is only to pay double the legally required compensation.

Until mid 2015 this was often true, because many employees who won the labor arbitration chose NOT to come back to work, but receive the double compensation. With the slowing economy, more and more employees who win the case chose to go back to the employer and continue to work, instead of taking the compensation. This results not only in further problems in the company (low work morality, conflicts and disputes), but also in much higher costs (salary/wage payment for the complete absence time, usually at least 6 months, and can be up to 2 years if fought through all courts).

In the seminar Dr. Kuang-Hua Lin (Founder and President of APMC), and Ms. Sonia Li (Head of the Legal Team China at APMC) will discuss the most common mistakes in firing employees, and the best ways to release your staff with either minimum cost or minimum risk.

    Agenda:

  • Common mistakes of GMs and Line Managers in firing, so that even the best HR and Lawyers will not be able to help.
  • What to do if mistakes were done?
  • When will you need a good labor law lawyer?
  • When to fire w/o notice; When to fire with notice; When to negotiate; When to use outplacement service
  • How to avoid problems in the first place?
  • The seminars are held in cooperation with the German Chamber and the DUSA Business Association

Visit APMC on the Hannover Messe from 13 - 17 April 2015 in Hall 6, Stand H46.

APMC will be exhibitor on the trade fair Hannover Messe from 13 - 17 April 2015 on the exhibition area „Global Business & Markets“. You can visit us at the Joint Booth „Doing Business with China“ of the DCW (German-Chinese business-network) in Hall 6, Stand H46.

As in previous years, Dr Kuang-Hua Lin, President of APMC will have two business lectures on the Hannover Messe:

    1) Current HR and Labour Issues for Chinese and Expatriates in China

EU-China Economic Cooperation (EUCEC) Forum 2015
    Donnerstag, 16 April, 14 – 18h
    Business Forum 2, Hall 6

Labor laws and regulations in China have undergone significant changes in the recent years. The major issues for foreign companies have so far been recruiting and even more importantly retaining high-qualified staff. Now companies are also faced by the problem of increasing labour costs. This is why the HR role has become one of the key functions for any foreign business in China.

Expat contracts are extremely costly, so that foreign companies are looking for alternative compensation options in order to optimize the return on expat investment. Regarding the recruitment of local talents, companies still have to work on their strategies to recruit the right people without attracting job hoppers.

    2) Common intercultural problems of M&A projects between China and Europe

Chinese European Intercultural Communication (CEIC) Seminar 2014
    Friday, 17 April 2015, 10 -12h
    Business Forum 1, Hall 6

The business activities of European countries have been increasing in the field of M&A in order to expand business in China. However, especially for M&A deals, European companies need to take cultural differences into account as a thoughtful consideration of the different cultures might decide about the success or failure of the M&A deal.

Based on his wide experience of cross-border M&A projects, Dr Lin highlights the key findings on how to manage M&A projects efficiently, what to consider when identifying potential targets, what to watch out for when doing Due Diligence and how negotiations can be concluded successfully.

Investing in China: Selecting the right location

On 29 March 2012, Asia-Pacific Management Consulting, a HR and management consultancy focused on Asia, organized a China investment seminar for European companies

DUESSELDORF, 05 April 2012 The China Investment Seminar, incl. Introduction of Suzhou New District addresses itself to companies which plan to invest in China or are in process of establishing a factory in China.

Dr. Kuang-Hua Lin, President & CEO of APMC, gave profound insights into challenges and concrete steps and formalities of an establishment of a factory in China. Due to his consultancy experience he could give many best-practice examples. Key subjects were also the protection of brands and patents, the recruitment of qualified staff and possible employee retention programs.

Afterwards, government officials introduced the industrial area Suzhou New District (SND) in China. SND has been established in 1990 and includes a total area of 258km². It offers perfect site conditions due to the highly developed infrastructure and can be reached within 34 min by high-speed train from Shanghai. Up-to-date, 2000 European companies settled down in SND, with this number set to rise. The so-called one-stop-service by the local government is quite unique: This service ensures a smooth operation of all requirements and concerns of the companies located in SND. Dr. Lin underlined the importance of such a service: A lot of industrial parks help the companies to obtain the business license, but do no‰ support them a›terwards, as for tax or customs declaration, for example.

Finally, Mr. Wolfgang Elbert, Managing Dire2tor of Annax Anzeigesysteme GmbH, a company that is located in SND since 2006, shared his experiences on the Chinese market and especially in Suzhou New District.

All European participants had a lively discussion if a production site in China is still a must, given the fact that China is not a low-wage-country anymore. Both, Mr. Elbert and Dr. Lin, confirmed from their point-of-view, that a presence in China does not make sense for export reasons only. But if a company wants to enter the Chinese market, then a local production is essential, in order to serve the local market in China, especially due to the necessity of a high speed delivery. confirmed Mr. Elbert.

European companies are still interested in building a production site in China, but they need more information and support regarding the procedures. The seminar organised by APMC answered mand oft he basic qhestions as confirmed by Mr. Fortmueller, HR Manager at Seepex GmbH: I obtained a lot of useful information today, because I met important contact partners who gave great support. The exchange of experiences with other companies facing the same challenges were really interesting.

Erfolgsrezept fuer Mitarbeiterbindung in Asien - Vortrag am 09.07.2010, Hotel Nikko (Duesseldorf)

    Duesseldorf, 12.07.2010

    28.11.2008

Informationsveranstaltung am 28. November 2008 in Düsseldorf,
Hotel Nikko, Immermannstr.

    23.11.2007

Im Rahmen der 10-Jahres-Feier der Asia-Pacific Management Consulting GmbH am 16. November 2007 in Düsseldorf, Hotel Nikko
